Chester Regatta

Established in 1733, Chester Regatta is “the oldest regatta in the world” and we were delighted to enter again, following our successful results last year. So, on the 8th of June 2019, we competed on the River Dee and were interested to see where we stood amongst regional competition. Our results were a mixed bag: both our men’s Open 8+ and top men’s Open 4+ were knocked out by Kings School Chester in the final heat. Unfortunately, our second men’s open 4- were knocked out by Agecroft in the first heat, due to steering and equipment malfunctions – resulting in a minor crash.

Both of our women’s crews successfully won their races, where (in the last heat) the 4 + beat Trafford and the 8+ beat Kings School Chester girls. Chester Regatta is always a great event to compete in, and despite the lack of organisation and delayed race times, the people are friendly as ever. This year there were some interesting results and the awards of huge glass tankards and wall hangers are always worth the 750m grind.
