Met Regatta

On the Saturday the 1stof June, eighteen members of LUBC headed south to Eton Dorney to compete in the annual Metropolitan Regatta. After a stressful exam period we were all looking forward to getting back into the fast pace of regatta season.

The sun was shining bright on Dorney Lake when we arrived looking ideal for a day of racing. The first race that took place was the Men’s 4+, unfortunately one of the men had fallen ill the day before so thankfully someone managed to row in his place. After an incredibly close heat their boat came in fifth, sadly not making it to the final however they put up a strong fight.

The next race to take place was the men’s top eight. The men managed to hold on to second place for a while, and after a close face off our boat came in third. The eight should be incredibly proud of themselves after such a close race, finishing with an impressive time.

The final race was the women’s eight. The women went into the race hoping to do really well, having managed to come ninth in the time trail and making the B final in BUCS Regatta. They started third off the start and the women gave the race everything they had and managed to be first by the 500-metre mark and kept that position for the whole race. The women were ecstatic to win a race especially at a regatta like Met. The women were awarded medals, and all headed back north feeling an overwhelming sense of achievement.

Congratulations to all the athletes that took part in such a great regatta. What an amazing weekend to kick start summer rowing for LUBC and I’m sure we will all work hard to keep up the good work.
