This year, LUBC completed a week-long training camp at Lake Windermere. This week is always pivotal for the summer season, and we are planning to compete in a number of races, the end goal being Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta. Each year, we are always lucky to have a knowledgeable and dedicated coaching team. This year was made up of Patrick Stephens, our Head Coach, as well as Jordan Simons and Patrick Home, two of our alumni members.
Half way through the week, Alison Mowbray, a silver Olympic medallist, joined the coaching team and had a huge impact on our training. Alison learnt to row when she was at the University of Liverpool and joined LUBC as a fresher. It was inspiring to have her with us, especially due to the fact she was in our position back when she first started her rowing career. Alison’s contribution to our week was incredible for us; we received some amazing coaching and she presented a talk one evening, describing her journey from being at LUBC, up to her winning her Olympic silver medal in Athens 2004 in the quad. All members were astonished by her success and positivity that drove her to achieve her goal.
The whole week was a huge success. Although this week was mentally challenging for all athletes, everyone remained positive and focused on the aims of the week. We are approaching BUCS Regatta weekend, and our training camp has helped to solidify crews for this. We look forward to seeing what we can achieve this summer. A special thank you must go to all of our coaches who dedicated their week to the clubs continuous development and getting the best out of all athletes.
