Liverpool University Novice Eights Time Trial

Information for this year's event can be found below.

The next Novice Eight's Time Trial will be held on Sunday 24th November 2019 at Runcorn Rowing Club. We hope to see you there!

Our Novice Race Day started as an annual side-by-side race with the University of Manchester to give Novice Rowers a taste of racing experience.

In 2016, Men’s Vice Captain, Patrick Home decided to invite others to the day, and we had five Universities take part and following the success of last year, we are striving to continue bringing Universities

together to provide a first race for Novices. In 2017, thanks to Georgia May (President, 2017-18), this event became BUCS endorsed.

The 24th of November saw 6 rival universities from the North West descend on LUBC’s base of operations at Runcorn Rowing Club, for what would prove to be a day of intense racing.

In 2017, LUBC’s novice men placed 2nd after John Moores, and the women came 1st by a considerable margin. After this loss by the men the pressure was on to redeem the squad the following year.

Sure enough, in 2018 the Novice Men gave it full send and brought home a win by a margin of 14 seconds over the next fastest crew, reasserting LUBC’s dominance. Unfortunately, despite a strong performance the women did not share in the success of their male counterparts, coming 3rdwith a gap of only 3 seconds between the top crews after a closely-fought battle.

With racing wrapped up for the day everyone descended on the BBQ and cake sale to replenish their energy from the intense time-trial and wait for the results to be announced. In the highly anticipated awards ceremony, first place medals were awarded to the LUBC Novice Men, and Salford University's Novice Women. Strong performances all-round have given the club a sturdy foundation on which to build.

A massive thank you to all the volunteers on the day, and a special mention to Anne Hignell and Georgia May for all their help with the organisation of the day.

We look forward to hosting what hopes to be an even bigger event next year. Thank you to everyone who attended for making the day such a success.
